Favourite parts of Deus Ex: Invisible War?

Postby James » Thu Apr 14, 11 12:40 am

I want to know what you like most about the game's levels.

---

I absolutely love anything to do with Trier, as put down by Marco years ago, the whole reversal of the situation from 20 years ago between MJ12 and The Knight's Templar in Paris is ever so clever. Being acquainted with Tracer Tong as Alex D was nice too.

The Antarctica levels were great too, especially with the homages and call-backs to the original.

Not even escaped the first place yet... only found the aug room thingy.

Is there really any point in continuing?? Cause its just doesn't "feel" like Deus Ex.

I've played the game twice, it is enjoyable. Expect frustration with menus and ammo. :)

If you're not able to carry on see my let's play of Deus Ex: Invisible War, I will be doing a commentary and showing highlights of the game.

AH cool.

I will give it a go when I'm at home. It ain't gonna happen today I'm using a 9 year old PC lol.

I've already been pissed off at the menus, the extreme darkness in-game, aliased textures and damned universal ammo.

The look and feel of the game reminds of a game called Project Eden, crossed with a low-graphics Doom 3 kinda feel.

I suggest messing with gamma, brightness and contrast settings. It was very dark when I launched and ugly when NPC models appeared in the dark completely black. I will show you my settings later.

Don't put gamma too high, the bump mapping/embossed effect from the texture pack does not correctly show itself.

I'll post a screenshot/settings here later

Thanks. Might help me set it up as I'm just not familiar with the game or how it works behind the scenes. Gimme Unreal 1 anyday lol.

The game's environment does remind me a lot about Doom 3 haha especially with the initial lighting settings. I think the graphics are good enough especially with the texture pack, I hate every human model I've seen so far and Alex Denton's (maybe other characters) mouth contains a bizarre gray texture (as opposed to making it black or something)

cant wait to get in, already got my episode 2 ready except for the last part. loads of videos and images in this one

Cool.

The models SUCK don't they...

I'll have a look when I'm on a better PC, busy attempting to make a map for DXMP now.

Yeah you should definitely try to complete Invisible War, it is not a bad game; it is a good game but it is is nowhere near as good as DX1 for a good amount of reasons.

Without spoiling, many members of the DX1 cast (minor and major) appear in DXIW, all in major roles.

It has been a long time since I last played DXIW, though I remember that I liked most the final level Liberty Island. Because it was the only level in the game which was based on the original map in DX1. Aside from that, DXIW is a completely different game with a different atmosphere and style.

You didn't like it, probably because that version of Liberty Island was all covered in snow and took place farther in the future. But still the basic layout of the level resembled the original Liberty Island map from DX1. They even recreated the UNATCO HQ underground areas.

Hint (!):
Imagine you load the orginal DX1 Liberty Island map into UnrealEd and replace all the environment textures with snowy ice textures. And voila, you have DXIW Liberty Island in Winter! 8)

As edited in ep1, dxiw does a shit job at introducing the game.

In dx you're aware throughout the first level of the facts that JC is a super soldier on your first assignment straight from unatco training with state of the art augmentations, you're aware of the state of the world when you see the statue of liberty without it's head.

Dxiw introduces you to meet up with people and you don't know exactly what you are. The game throws you into the world without a sense of self or surroundings which the protagonist is already aware of. it puzzles me is that you don't even find out that you're biomodded but you're asked to install the 3 biomods, you are biomodified for christ sake, only comes naturally if billie is in the intro

it's something i will implement properly in my let's play.

For some reason, my favourite part of any of the levels was the nightclub.

When I first entered the club I immediately harked back to the Tatooine level of the Star Wars Episode 1 game (shitty game, unbelievably deep level).

I was sucked in to the whole scenery and made the experience much more gratifying...when I decided to silently murder all the security and assassinate the main objective I was meant to talk to (by throwing a wine glass from the VIP balcony on to his head). And then with that Gray corpse!

Keep in mind, I was very poor at the game at this point and only made it to Antarctica (couldn't progress any further because had very little health and no ammo, surrounded by commandos after talking to JC).
Signatures are dumb.

I've been correcting A LOT of typos in my lets play type ups of the speech. I've been watching recordings and typing it up (no need to watch unimportant conversations) and the amount of mistakes from the game's side is very frequent.

I really enjoyed these parts of Seattle:
Tarsus
Emerald Suite
Club Vox
First inclinator visit
WTO terminal + hangar
Mako

Everything else was so dire, especially the conversations in lower Seattle bored me to death.

The flash backs for me, gave me a good buzz & also when you're on Liberty Island. Fucking great memories along with the remixed Unatco theme.

Changed my mind, it's bugged out on 2 quests (Leo templar warnings and the harvester) and I will have to insert these quests in later after completing first/all endings
