Huge coincidence?, no, both are nano-machine 'viruses'. Although the Gray Death also takes its name also from the Black Death... but no mention of a name for it being also called Gray Plague in game exists. Why wouldn't they hide a homage?, it was a very successful stealth and conspiracy game.

You can't POSSIBLY tell me they named a "protein cell with little machines" around it was named after the Gray aliens in game.

I could blow your mind with all the James Bond, Robocop, design changes after The Matrix and Thief/System Shock shit in this game.
