Nope going to take the advantage to laugh at you and be satire at Nobody.

The only purpose similarity was the Matrix code easter egg. The game always had a guy in glasses as the protagonist.

If you're really going to call out the cyberpunk influences it's:

Metropolis
+
Blade Runner
+
Ghost in the Shell (the result of Metropolis + Blade Runner)
+
Space Odyssey
+
I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM
+
System Shock (also influenced heavily by Metro, Blade and Odyssey) (also developer family, most shot off to Ion storm to work on...)
=
Deus Ex

????????????????????????????????????????? there's only months between release of Deus Ex and Matrix 1 and there's art from 1997 of JC Denton still wearing a leather coat and shades.

I love system shock <33

What if both thought of the coat/sunglasses idea on their own accord? coincidental?

Entirely incidental and Deus Ex gave a nod to it with the easter egg.

No way.. Heh, never knew that..

I knew about the easter egg, but didn't know much about the history behind it.

I know it features an omnipotent artificial intelligence and is set in a dystopian future but isn't including I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream as a major influence on Deus Ex a bit of a stretch?

Absolutely not Snakey you dumb dumb. For simplicity Helios' actions at the end such as experiments of authority on China are very reminiscent of AM. A long shot would be that AM + Shodan is the base of Icarus' personality AND typeset.

If I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM is far fetched then so is Space Odyssey.

Also those are for a fact influences and not pulled out of my ass.

I stand corrected. Would you recommend the book?

I think the scenario in the latter is far more likely.

I recommend the book and the game as they're both brilliant.

After being reminded of such a thread by my ICE BURN.

Do androids dream of electric sheep? was also an important central influence to Deus Ex and especially to Bladerunner.

If Deus Ex had stuck to its original script, then Space Oddysey would be very pertinent, a trip in space involving confrontation with an AI.

Judging by DX3, it's safe to assume we might see a trip to a secret moonbase as originally planned in DX1.

Gov... ernment agents.

And here I was trying to take this thing seriously.
Pretty interesting videos though, I just didn't understand... the terrorist leader steps on the subway with the hostages, and JC steps out of it seconds later. Uh... am I missing something?
